Are there any home-based transcriptionists using wave/voice/speech to text softwares successfully? Willing to share your views if yes? Thank you.

| I have used Dragon NaturallySpeaking sucessfully. It is faster than typing, and no spelling errors. Once you get used to it, it will be easy. You have to listen to the voice file and speak to the software to get text. Direct voice input does not give good result. If you need the software please pm or email me. |

Voice recognition software is likely to revolutionise the MT industry. Says Dinesh Kumar, VP, CBay Systems (India), "We feel that voice recognition technology is going to increase the productivity of the MT industry."
Voice recognition first became commercially available as a potentially viable alternative to the more traditional methods of record keeping in 1994 with software like Dragon Dictate and Kurzweil's VoiceMED. However, all of these were DOS programs and each of them had significant drawbacks. Dragon Dictate was slow and somewhat unreliable. Kurzweil's VoiceMED was expensive at $27,000 per workstation and exceedingly difficult to learn. A very large number of the early VoiceMED users, after spending weeks or months attempting to learn the system, ended up using the computer for other tasks and returned to their prior method of record keeping. Dragon users frequently had difficulty with accuracy or their microphones and waited for later editions. 1995-96 was the transition period in this industry with new and quicker products being developed and faster hardware becoming available. By 1997, the quality, speed and selection of products had increased dramatically.
By using voice recognition software, the transcriptionist can listen to the client's dictation using the headphone and repeat what the doctor said into a microphone. This way one would not have to type out the report, but could use verbal commands and the word processing software to edit and format it. This system would vastly enhance the productivity of the transcriptionist as speaking is faster than typing. Such a system would be especially useful for medical transcriptionists who suffer from repetitive stress injuries sometimes caused due to continuous typing. The transcriptionist using voice recognition software still needs to proofread reports to make sure that they contain the correct words, especially when it comes to homonyms like 'too', 'two' and 'to'. Transcriptionists will also need to edit these reports for content. Many doctors' reports are fragmented or contain rambling sentences. The transcriptionist cleans up the report so that readers, especially auditors, can understand it easily |

Hi Venugopalarao/others,
Re Dragon NaturallySpeaking software. Is this loaded directly into the computer and available for usage immediately? Can anyone install this directly and start using, or do you need to ask some techie to do it, since some of these softwares develop minor glitches and so a techie may be required. I would like to lay hands on this. What does it cost, the latest version, I mean?
Re voice technology. I have been reassured very clearly from some party in the States that it will never replace MTs, since it still requires their final touches to get the full accuracy. I am only interested in this so that my TAT time is reduced and my output increases. If Dragon can produce even 70% accuracy, then I would consider it worthwhile to get this installed in my computer. Please inform me if this is really worth it, and where I can lay my hands on it. Tks. |

Hi Friends,
Here is TalkItTypeIt (http://www.xpressionsmedia.com) at a fraction of a cost of DNS v9 that could cost one an arm and a leg. I just came to know about this interesting link. They even give a 30-day trial of the basic version in their downloads section.
What I request is, someone experienced in VR transcription (prefereably with DNS) please download it and try it and share his/her valuable experience about the feasibility of using it for transcription work. Could it be a replacement to DNS?
Regards,
