I've realised that I am not able to do a steady transcription work for quite some time. Almost every time it was a difference in expectations of my own to that of my employer that led to breaking of our relationship. So I am setting them clear.

1. I'm a transcriptionist who took diploma course in transcription from a reputed institution for 6 months.
2. After course completion, I've been working on live files for 6 months now.
3. I work from home, have high speed internet, and you'll find me online from 9 am to 2 pm, Tuesday to Saturday, transcribing 15 minutes of dictation everyday. My id is transcriptionist_mumbai@yahoo.co.in
4. My accuracy is 80 - 85 %.
5. To gain experience, I've decided to work free for anybody provided they get back to me with the corrected copy of my trancribed file with feedback.

There's no other information that I'll provide or expect from you. I'm true to my words and you'll understand that when you work with me. So let me know if any one is interested and together we'll make it to our goals.

Hi,

I think that someone forgot to tell you that honesty does not pay these days. Your candour and openness is admirable, but I am afraid that you may be taken for a ride. Even so-called experienced MTs have trouble producing very good accuracy, but bull**** wins everytime, please pardon my language. What you simply require is a burning ambition to succeed, be open to criticism and target say two years when you will have not only become a senior MT, but to go on ahead. Do not tell anyone what you have mentioned above, but add another six months to your work period, (bull**** works), try to stick to one company until you are confident that you have mastered the files easily enough, irrespective of the time taken, one month or six months, then make your demands for a raise. If you really slog, no one will like to have you go, believe me. Good MTs are not a dime a dozen, but almost as rare as Halley's Comet. Please believe me as I have been there and back. Where your honesty counts is with yourself, whether you are doing justice to the company or yourself. If you are good, make your demands reasonable, then if rebutted, quit, go somewhere else. Do not allow yourself to be browbeaten. Most companies are vicious and will try to take you for a ride. What I can only offer is hope, and not a job. I am very, very sorry that I cannot directly help in anyway, as I myself after about four years am in very rough waters, in spite of doing direct HBT, which is necessitating me looking around for new openings. Do not give up!

Medictrans, Bull**** doesn't work always. I have been an employee and an employer. An employer knows when an MT is giving out trash. It is just that he doesn't want to lose the MT who is trying his best to improve himself. As you said, a hard working MT will reach his potential after some period. An MT who thinks he is getting away with inferior quality of transcription will definitely be the loser in the long run.
Honesty with himself, knowing his limitations and trying to improve himself will definitely be an asset to a company.
Hello transcriptionmumbai, don't lose heart, I will definitely try to help you, if you already haven't had any offers.

Hi All,

As far as honesty, sincerity, and hard work, I agree it definitely has value, but ONLY when the management (MIDDLE MANAGEMENT, especially) is sensitive and proactive enough and forthcoming to accept and reciprocate it in that spirit! What about favoritism, partiality, and politics; and victimization and intimidation by management at work place?

What do you say about a boss who talks of "teamwork and cooperation" in the meeting room and the very next moment is back to his old nasty ways of all kinds of acts favoring the most useless of the bunch on the production floor, allocating them the most plum jobs, biggest and cleanest of dictations, dictations of highest line count potential (copy-paste type templates), etc. While these good for nothing a@#holes get away with leaving office early, loads of incentives, and prizes for "top team performance", the honest and do gooders keep slogging their donkey asses! How many of you have NOT experienced this situation in your own company?!

I have hosted two pages worth of information on this topic starting from the thread http://mtjobs.forumco.com/topic~TOPIC_ID~566.asp

You would also do a good job searching for "top ten reasons people quit their jobs" on Google...!

So in conclusion, honesty with common sense is the best policy!

Logof,

I think I ruffled your feathers when I talked derisively about employers. You may be an isolated exception to the general rule. But if you happen to go over the past comments of MTs re the treatment meted out to them, then you may get a general idea that most MTs are generally treated like s**ts.

This definitely does not mean that MTs are not to be held culpable. They are scores of MTs who resort to either cheap tactics to avoid work, or are not up to the mark. Indianmt pretty much covers this particular issue.

I still stick to my comments made earlier. I have never believed that potential MTs should be drawn a false picture of what may be. They should know what facts are pretty bluntly, instead of being given false encouragement. It is a harsh world out there and they better know it. They should understand that they have to stand on their own feet ultimately and they need to slog to be successful.

Transcriptionmumbai,

I apologize if I came out hard. But please believe me when I say that at the end of the road, it is you and only you who counts, not me, your friends, co-workers who will define your future, or the tons of advise you receive. The quicker you learn, the faster you go up.

Hi,

I do not know why this situation comes to you like this. When I worked in Pune 4 years back as incharge of one unit, my collegue used to say (who gave training to 1500 people in Mumbai and Pune), if any MT gives here 80-85%, we can sell them to big names(MNCs) for 10,000 for each candidate.

As you are in Mumbai, you can easily get job. I will give you one or two MT company referrences near to your house at free of cost, go and meet them, who will give HBT or in-house or I will give files. Contact me on chat.
